Investigators and prosecutors learn to follow the money in forest crime
A three-day workshop in Blantyre trained forestry investigators and prosecutors in financial investigation, asset tracing and forfeiture.
From 12 to 14 August 2026, investigators and prosecutors met in Blantyre for a three-day workshop on financial investigation in forest crime. Working through moot cases, they practised bank and mobile-money analysis, reading call-detail records, link analysis, asset tracing and forfeiture.
The workshop was part of IWT144, a project of the Basel Institute on Governance funded by the UK Government. It supports the Department’s move from an approach based on offences and seizures to one that also goes after the money and assets behind forest crime.
