UCHI
Ulimi ndi Chilengedwe m’Malawi
District-led work to protect forest reserves at high risk of encroachment and restore the degraded land around them, under the Greening and Growing Malawi Programme.
UCHI Component 1 supports the preservation, restoration and regeneration of Malawi’s natural resource base. It identifies protected areas at high risk of encroachment, and the degraded landscapes around them, and supports practical measures to improve land management, restore forests and stop farms spreading into protected areas.
The approach combines land-use planning and customary land registration, forest regeneration, soil conservation and watershed management, and sustainable financing for natural resource management.
