Achieving AFR100 with Forest and Farm Producers
Restoring degraded landscapes in Ntcheu and Mangochi with forest and farm producer organisations, and helping them build restoration businesses.
Over 90% of Malawians depend on wood fuel, and charcoal production, agricultural expansion and settlement continue to push forests back. This project restores degraded landscapes and strengthens the resilience of forest and farm producers through sustainable land management, community empowerment and climate-smart interventions.
It contributes to Malawi’s commitments under AFR100 — 100 million hectares restored across Africa by 2030 — and the Bonn Challenge.
Progress
Four forest landscape restoration policy documents and one technical order on sustainable land management developed.
19 community sensitisation campaigns held.
12 community restoration plans identified and supported.
15 nurseries established and supported, with 2 demonstration plots.
15 restoration incubation hubs established and trained, linking communities with small and medium enterprises.
